It’s the end of a great decade! As 2019 comes to a close and we all look ahead to resolutions for the new year, why not take a look back at all the good things that came before too? As we celebrate 35 years of publishing here at Lilliput, there is no better time of year to look back on our favourite 35 books in 35 years! Founded in 1984 by Antony Farrell, more than 600 Lilliput titles have appeared over the years! For Culture Night on Friday 21st September, The Lilliput Press are hosting a Short Fiction Competition. We are inviting short story submissions of up to 1,000 words which should be based around the theme ‘The Heart of the City’. The team at Lilliput will choose the best short fiction from the received submissions. The finalists will then be invited to read their piece as part of Culture Night in The Lilliput Press office in Stoneybatter. The winner will be chosen by our expert panel and announced on the night. Who are you and what is your role at Lilliput Press? My name is Orla, and I am the new editorial intern at The Lilliput Press. My job includes a number of different tasks: I run the bookshop at the front of the store. I am sometimes given blurbs to write and manuscripts to proof or edit. I am the one responsible for reading the ‘slush’ pile. These are the unsolicited manuscripts handed in to The Lilliput Press daily.
