Michael MacLiammoir (1899-1978), artist, actor, designer, author and producer, founded the Gate Theatre, along with his partner Hilton Edwards, in October 1928. He wrote several stage adaptations as well as thirteen plays. Amoung them are Diarmuid agus Grainne (1928), Where Stars Walk (1940), Ill Met by Moonlight (1946), Home For Christmas (1950) and Prelude in Kazbek Street (1973).
