Hiring: Publishing Manager

The Lilliput Press is seeking a Publishing Manager on a 12 month contract, renewable annually subject to review with the Publisher and Board. The successful candidate will have suitable experience in a book publishing environment, preferably in a project management or coordination role, and must be able to hit the ground running. 

Essential Criteria 

  • Third-level qualification in publishing, literature or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a book publishing environment in a project management, office management, coordination or administration role (min. 2 years’ experience)
  • Proficient mathematical and computational skills with experience in setting and managing budgets
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in problem-solving and decision-making
  • Strong editorial and proofreading skills and ability to juggle multiple projects concurrently
  • Mac-based computer literacy and ease with using Excel, MS Office, Gmail, Adobe Acrobat Pro and FTP programs
  • Excellent mentoring and team-building skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment
  • Flexibility in responding to the requirements of the post

Desirable Criteria

  • Ability to use Photoshop, InDesign and WordPress and familiarity with typesetting and book design standards
  • Extensive knowledge of Irish publishing
  • Results-driven with proven stakeholder and relationship management skills especially in relation to the Arts Council of Ireland
  • Familiarity with intellectual property and rights of reproduction

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Publisher and Board, this is a dynamic and multifaceted role. In addition to general office administration, duties include the overseeing of our ecommerce website, our physical shop and company accounts. The key duties include:

Production Management

Key tasks:

  • Ensuring titles are sent to press and are in stock on time, and that all our distribution and marketing partners have up to date information on pub. dates and specifications
  • Running production meetings and updating production schedule
  • Sending new title data to relevant parties and overseeing bibliographic metadata platforms (Nielsen, Stison and distributor platforms)
  • Finalizing print specifications, getting print quotes from printers and liaising with them re. specs/schedule/delivery
  • Creative and technical quality control on all cover designs
  • Checking and signoff of all prepress files

Staff Management

Key tasks:

  • Line manager to in-house staff
  • Mentoring of assistants to ensure professional development
  • Setting and tracking deadlines and problem-solving on a daily basis

Financial Management

Key tasks:

  • Overall responsibility for financial control and implementation of a rigorous system of checks and balances on all financial transactions and records
  • Overall responsibility for preparation of the company’s books for audit and ability to answer any audit questions
  • Responsible for organizational budget and reporting to the Board
  • Cash flow management
